Plumbing Tip #27: What should I do if the faucet turns but little or no water comes out?

The aerator strains water and acts as a filter. Over time, it can get clogged. For a start, remove the aerator and check for mineral build-up. If it is dirty, clean it and remove all the sediments before putting it back. If the problem persists, then you should try replacing it with a new one. Check also for a shut off valve that may have closed or a gate valve that broke internally and shut off the water. Check also the passageway within the valve cartridge and flow restrictor. Sediments can form within a faucet also. Fortunately, fixing this is not costly and all one need to do is clean the faucet.
