Plumbing Tip #35: How do you replace a faucet?
First, shut off the water. Then, disconnect the water supply lines. The next step is to remove the faucet from the sink with a wrench. Bottom mounted faucets are removed from above while top mounted facets are held in place by nuts that are located under the sink. If you find a build up of scum once the remove the faucet, clean it with some vinegar and water. Next is to apply some plumber’s putty around the faucet base. Remember that rubber or plastic gaskets do not require this. Ensure the faucet is in place before installing the washers and mounting the nuts. Align the faucet with the sink and tighten the nuts.
