Plumbing Tip #25: How do you fix a faucet that drips from the handle?
This procedure is similar to fixing a faucet that drips from the spout. Only in this case, you will have to replace either the fiber washer under the packing nut or the O-ring. In the same manner, turn off the water and remove the faucet handle. If the handle is stubborn, don’t force it and gently pry it with a screwdriver. Leaking around the handle will require you to replace the O-ring and fiber washer. It would be advisable to replace both. You may also need to lubricate the stem threads with grease and thread the stem back into the faucet body. Once this is done, thread the packing nut and tighten it.
