Plumbing Tip #5: How to prevent your plumbing system from being frozen in winter

I am sure you have heard of the old saying that ‘prevention is better than cure’. Well, these wise words apply not only to health but to plumbing as well! Before winter hits full swing, there are several things that you can do to prevent your plumbing system from being frozen. Some of the things that you can do include:

Protect your water meter

Wrap your water meter and insulate it to prevent it from cracking and leaking. Otherwise, if the water freezes and cracks the meter, the leak may damage your household items.

Open the cabinet doors below the sink to let in warm air

By opening the cabinet doors and allowing warm air to reach the pipes under the sink, you can reduce the possibility of your pipes getting frozen.

Minimize draft

If there is a draft coming in to your house due to cracked windows or unclosed doors, please make sure that the windows are repaired and doors are closed.
