Plumbing Tip #38: What you should not do with your garbage disposal

Garbage disposals will jam if something solid or tough gets lodged between the spinning plate and the inside wall of the disposal unit. Do not throw broken glass, string, banana peels, flour, rubber or plastic materials into the garbage disposal. Be careful never to put your fingers near the opening when it is running. A disposal unit is made up of many parts and there are not many that be serviced by yourself. Do not try to repair the unit yourself if it has stopped working. Be sure to call a qualified service professional for any repairs your unit may need.
