Plumbing Tip #33: What should you do if your Water Closet is slow to fill or won’t flush

A common reason why your WC doesn’t flush could be because the small tube in the tank from the ball-cock to the overflow is clogged or has come off. Try flushing the toilet to see if there is water coming out. If there isn’t, pull the tube loose from the ball-cock and run a small wire through the tube. Then insert the wire into the ball-cock opening to clear any deposits. If there is still no water, try replacing the ball-cock valve. If your toilet fills too slowly, there could be a possibility that the underside of the toilet bowl is clogged. Just use a piece of wire or a hard, curved toilet brush to clean any deposits.
