Plumbing Tip #44: How do you join 2 pipes together by soldering ring fittings?
Start by sliding each pipe into the connector, making sure they go in as far as the stop in the body. If one of the pipes binds, it could indicate a distorted end to the pipe or an obstruction in the body. Apply a thin coating of solder flux around the pipe. It is best you use a small brush as the solder flux may contain some form of acid. You should then insert the pipe into the connector and assemble the remaining pipes. You should not fit or solder each pipe separately. If you think it is necessary, use a heat screen. Light the torch and allow it to burn a few minutes before adjusting the flame and soldering.
